Cai Gang was very good at reading people’s minds, and such people were usually very persuasive.

At first, Chen Yuan did not intend to return to school. However, after persuasion, he quickly agreed to return to school and wait for news.

He wasn’t sure if Young Master Ye had explained the ins and outs of this matter to Miss Qiao. After thinking for a moment, he briefly explained it to her.

“The Chen family suffered this time because the Zhou family wanted to see you, but they couldn’t find a way, so they targeted Aunt Chen.

“Aunt Chen… is a tough one. She even reminded me not to tell you, so…”

He secretly glanced in the noble and lazy man’s direction before quickly retracting his gaze. He didn’t explicitly say he was doing it for Ye Wangchuan as he subconsciously explained it to Qiao Nian in his own words.

“Do you want to see Uncle Chen first or…?” Cai Gang carefully asked for her opinion.

Qiao Nian lowered her baseball cap. Other than her cold eyes, no other emotion could be captured from her. “Let’s go to the police station first.”

She had no intention of meeting Uncle Chen. She just wanted to confirm their safety, afraid that something similar to Master Cheng’s case would happen again.

Fortunately, Uncle Chen was fine.

Aunt Chen was fine too.

Qiao Nian understood why Aunt Chen would rather die than tell her—she must be afraid of troubling her.

Since Ye Wangchuan had already resolved the matter, what reason did she have to go to the ward to reveal herself? She would only waste Uncle Chen and Aunt Chen’s care.

Mr. Zhou had been silent ever since he was brought to the police station.

No matter what the police asked, he always said, “Sorry, I have to wait for a lawyer.”

He looked gentle and polite, but, in fact, he was uncooperative, stubborn, and difficult to communicate with.

Even though the police had presented him with the testimony of Aunt Chen’s family and the evidence provided by the hospital, Mr. Zhou only leaned back and nonchalantly said, “Wait for my lawyer to come and communicate with you.”

He seemed certain his lawyer could help him out of his current predicament. Not that he was arrogant, but he refused to cooperate.

When Qiao Nian and the others arrived, the police officer interrogating him had already spent nearly five hours trying to persuade him to talk.

Mr. Zhou kept his eyes closed as if he was asleep. Only when the police slammed the table to remind him to straighten his back would he open his eyes and answer briefly. Most of the time, the only response was silence.

The long silence could wear down someone’s patience.

The officer was about to go crazy. In the end, he gave up, made a cup of tea, and sat opposite him, looking like he was going to waste time with him.

Mr. Zhou didn’t care about the angry police officer sitting opposite him. He just thought about what went wrong and how he was going to resolve the current predicament.
